Terms of service

These terms cover the use of Keel. They are written to be read once and understood, rather than to be technically survivable in a dispute.

What Keel is

Keel is software for running a business: written standards, work with required steps, a weekly scoreboard, and a morning brief that reports exceptions. It is not accounting software, it is not a system of record for your finances, and it does not give financial, legal or tax advice. Your books remain the source of truth for your books.

Getting access

There is no public sign-up. People join an organisation by invitation from its owner, a manager, or its coach. Whoever creates an organisation is responsible for who they let into it and at what role.

What you pay

$49 per month while you are being coached by the coach who brought you in. $199 per month to run Keel without a coach. Fees are billed monthly in advance and are not refundable for a period already begun. Prices can change with thirty days’ notice, and never inside a period you have already paid for.

Your data is yours

Everything you put into Keel — standards, work, numbers, notes — belongs to you. We claim no ownership and no licence to it beyond what running the service requires. You can take an export at any time. If you stop paying, you can still get your data out.

What we are responsible for

Keeping the service running, keeping your data private, and keeping the owner-only rule true. If we ever fail at the third, that is a serious failure and we will tell you about it directly.

What we are not responsible for

Decisions you make. Keel reports what your sources said and flags when a number breaks its own pattern; it does not know your business. Where a source cannot answer honestly, Keel leaves the figure blank rather than guessing — but the judgement is always yours.

We are also not responsible for the accuracy of the systems Keel reads. If your accounting is wrong, Keel will faithfully report the wrong number.

Acceptable use

Do not use Keel to store information you have no right to hold, do not attempt to reach another organisation’s data, and do not share an account between people. Roles exist so that each person has their own.

Ending it

You can cancel at any time and it takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. We can end an account for non-payment or for the acceptable-use terms above, and other than in serious cases we will write to you first and give you a chance to fix it.

Liability

Our total liability is limited to the fees you paid in the twelve months before a claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes

We will give thirty days’ notice of a material change to these terms. Continuing to use Keel after that is acceptance.
